When in Bonaire La Balandra restaurant at Harbour Village Beach Resort is an excellent spot for breakfast, lunch & dinner. The restaurant is built in the shape of an old wooden ship with its bow hanging over the ocean. The service is gentle and discreet, as guests sit undisturbed facing the ocean with seagulls soaring overhead and small sunfish dancing in the waves against the blue horizon. The food is light and healthy and the atmosphere unhurried & serene. The resort beach is the best on the island, white sugar sand, tall palm trees & gentle surf.
Maiky’s Snack in the heart of the cunucu, the Bonaire wilderness, is a throwback to old times. Located down a dirt road in Nikiboko, it is where the locals eat fresh fish Creole & goat stew – the two ultimate favorites – under a shady corrugated roof, air-conditioned by caressing trade winds. Maiky learned to cook from Vera his mom and he now runs the sixteen year old family business with sister Inchie. He will be in Aruba in September for a festival in San Nicholas at the Bonaire Club and we are looking forward for another taste of his Pisca, Cabrito or Mondongo. The food is tremendous.
Bonaire’s slogan “Once A Visitor Always a Friend,” holds true: thank you Rose-Anne Rollan for everything, and Robert Everts, both of TCB, for taking us around.
