Wente Vineyards, Papiamento Restaurant & Arion Wine company make a donation.

The 16th Annual, 2022 Wente Vineyards & Papiamento Restaurant Golf Tournament took place in early April, and raised funds for a unique project, JUMP 18, a much-needed initiative, focusing on childhood obesity prevention.

The program was initiated last year under the watchful eye of pediatrician Dr. Jamiu Busari, of HOH, Horacio Oduber Hospital. Dr Busari assembled a multidisciplinary team, dedicated to the management of childhood obesity prevention. The project was coordinated by Amy van der Linden, and supported by Samantha Schwengle.

The pilot program graduated 18 kids, successfully, and the registration for the second round, with children ranging in age from 4 to 18, closed, with double the initial number of participants.

The expansion of the program was made possible by the generous donation.

Govert van der Hout, Arion Wine Company and Eduardo Ellis, Papiamento Restaurant, had the pleasure of presenting Dr. Busari and his team with the check collected with the help of golf tournament players and sponsors.

At a casual get together, pool side, at Papiamento restaurant Dr. Busari outlined the important initiative stressing that weight loss was secondary, to the ample educational opportunities the program offered.

JUMP18, guided by a team of young Aruban healthcare professionals developed a six-month curriculum to empower children and their parents to improve their own health and care about their wellbeing. JUMP18 aimed to help parents and children live healthier lives by reeducating and challenging their old beliefs. Through this process, the access was created for parents and their children to re-discover their true worth and gain a better understanding of nutrition, exercise and health.

The program promotes 3 distinct components among participants, namely Education, Nutrition, and Physical Activity, while HOH collected data for the purpose of research.

Dr. Busari reports that the added value aspect of camaraderie was of outmost importance, as participants got to know each other, forming friendships. At graduation, meeting the Minister of Health was a highlight for the kids, who understood their efforts count, beyond their personal challenges.

The Wente Vineyard, Papiamento Restaurant, Arion Wine Company Golf Tournament was supported by Setar, Elmar, Aruba Happy Rentals, Tri-Bike Aruba, Tropical bottling Company, Plus Accountants, Nagico, AIB Bank, Aruba Bank, Aruba Airport Authority, ASD, Complete Logistics, Robertson Fire Protection, ProTech, H&H fine wines and spirits, Superfood, Benu Pharmacies, y Tierra Del Sol Resort, Golf and Country Club.

Eric Wente, fourth generation winegrower & chairman Emeritus of the board at Wente Vineyards, welcomed sponsors and players to the tournament events which included a welcome reception, 18 holes of competition, and an award banquet and prizes.
