Tulip Hosts the Dutch Delegation

DSC06444At the end of the Kingdom Games, Koninkrijksspelen, a multi-sport event held every two years between the youth of the countries that are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Tulip restaurant on Eagle Beach hosted the Dutch delegation for a beach barbeque. A lovely buffet was set up on the tropical terrace where the athletes relaxed and enjoyed a leisurely afternoon at the end of an action-packed week of competitions.

Koninkrijksspelen, is a cultural exchange and sport event featuring seven different disciplines. It was hosted by Erica Terpstra of the Nederland Olympisch Comité and the Nederlandse Sport Federatie. Princess Margriet Francisca of the Netherlands, the third daughter of Queen Juliana and the younger sister of reigning monarch Queen Beatrix officiated over the opening ceremony of the games last weekend, on her state visit to the island.

After lunch, the Dutchies who earned more than 30 medals, went across the street to the world’s most famous beach and spent their last hours on the island frolicking in the surf. Helpful Food & Beverage Manager Marc Giesbers arranged for beach showers and changing facilities for the athletes, just prior to their departure.
