Last month a resort with deep pockets awarded its people a sizable bonus for getting vaccinated. I hear some businesses offer 2 extra days off, which is much more attractive than the Mojito, offered by some New York restaurant, as an incentive/reward.
We have to step up vaccinations, it is a national goal, so that the virus has a harder time finding new hosts, depriving it from the opportunity to mutate.
If we crack down on the number of new infections, it will result in less mutations for which our current vaccines are perhaps ineffective.
Thus incentivizing people to vaccinate is a good idea.
The department of health started hosting informal get-togethers at the hotels advocating for the vaccine, trying to dispel misinformation, and attempting to understand to root cause of vaccine-hesitancy, as the island recently welcomed 35.000 more doses.
Some people are afraid of needles.
Some people are afraid of a so-called chip reportedly inserted, courtesy of freshly bachelored Bill Gates.
Or the change of their DNA, though for some it is a good opportunity.
Whatever the reason, rational or irrational, experts say the virus will linger on FOREVER, and continue to pester our lives, if herd immunity escapes us.
We will continue to have flair ups, in pockets of infection, if we do not progress past 58%.
Arguing with people and trying to ‘convince’ them usually doesn’t help.
What helps is a slow and steady stream of good, patient, information, over time, then there’s hope people may see the benefit, and get over their exceptionalism.
That is the strategy adopted now by the department of health, a door to door, one neighborhood at a time.
This is what DVG just publicized.
“Dear Employer: As you are aware, reaching a herd immunity is imperative for Aruba to recover our economy. The only way to reach such herd immunity is to vaccinate against Covid-19. As such, all of us have a responsibility in the effort to reach this goal. Aruba is in the privileged position that it has enough vaccines at its disposal.
At this moment Aruba has vaccinated about 58% of the eligible population. We understand that there are still many people that would like more information about the Covid -19 vaccines and might have questions that relate to their specific situation.
It is therefore that the DVG is offering informative session to be held in your place of work. If you have 6 workers or more that have not vaccinated yet and who need more information, please feel free to contact: [email protected]. DVG is happy to schedule an information session.

We have a long weekend upcoming, and in honor of our June elections and for the purpose of campaigning some of the restrictions were lifted, but masks and social distancing remain.
