Mission: The Salamander Group earmarks a percentage of all sales for its Tikkun Olam, Repair of the World, program. The collected funds are given annually to not-for-profit local organizations in an ongoing effort to do good and serve the community. This program has been ongoing since 2007.
A small recent gathering brought together the representatives of five not-for-profit foundations, who received a donation from the Salamander Group. The funds for the donation were generated by the company’s unique Tikkun Olam program.
The Tikkun Olam program, meaning the Repair of the World, is named after an ancient Hebrew philosophical belief that the repair of the world, is possible by mean of charity.
Funds are collected in the four company stores, year-round, and donations are presented at the beginning of each year to taking part foundation.
This year’s recipients included Telephone pa Hubentud, a volunteer telephone help line for youth; Koningin Wilhelmina Kanker Fonds, Queen Wilhelmina’s Cancer Fund; The Mary Joan Foundation, supporting survivors of breast cancer; Fundacion Contra Violencia Relacional, the former Fundacion Hende Muje den Difficultad, now a more inclusive platform, providing counseling, shelter and support to individuals and families in abusive relationships; Fundacion Autismo Aruba, working on behalf of people with autism, their families and their caretakers.
The Tikkun Olam program has been embraced by the Salamander Group employees whole-heartedly.
Funds are generated in collaboration with clients and made possible thanks to dedicated staffers who help direct a percentage of clients’ purchases to select local foundations, picked from a Tikkun Olam menu available at the stores. Clients may study the menu at checkout and choose to give the percentage of sales to their preferred charity.
For this year’s donation presentation, foundations were asked to share about the challenges they face, and most of them reported regretfully that funding is increasingly hard to get, and that the need is growing exponentially.
