A fun 8-week contest concluded dramatically at two of Aruba’s top restaurants pitching staffers against each other in a determined effort to shed a few unnecessary pounds.
Fourteen staffers hailing from both neighboring restaurants, Aqua Grill and Amazonia Churrascaria, contributed Awg 200 each toward a pot, which was won this weekend by the most-successful slimming-contest participant, prep chef Andres Barbosa who lost 20kg, going from 100kg to 80kg, from 220lbs to 176lbs, followed by Walter, who shed 19kg and Julie, who lost 14kg.
The contest, based on the percentage of pounds lost, placed Andres at the top, however as far as weight is concerned Maurits Tromp was the weight loss champion, when he shed a staggering 23kg going from 126kg to 103kg!
The contest was initiated when Amazonia Churrascaria staffers showed considerable weight gain — the food is so good, they say — and most of them succeeded in getting back to their original body-frame ruined by the holidays, and Carnival!
With the incentive of winning an all paid spring vacation, when Awg 2,800 is handed to the leanest contestant, the race was on.
It was a terrific surprise to hear from General Manager Patrick v/d Berg that ownership doubled the amount, as a sign of approval, for the communal weight loss initiative.
