I trust this email finds you well. I am pleased to share with you the recent findings of a Short-Term Vacation Rentals (STVR) study conducted by MGM Source on behalf of the Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.). It presents the landscape of the world of STVRs in Aruba.

Attached to this email, you will find information and results of the study. The following is a brief overview of key insights:

Total Short-Term Vacation Rentals Inventory: 3,748 units

According to the study, Aruba has a total of 3,748 active STVR units, accommodating a total of 17,321 people. The category is broken down in various sub-categories; Vacation Homes, Villas, Apartments in a Complex, Apartments & Guesthouses, Others and Condominiums.

Total Inventory, including condominiums in the pipeline: 4,489 units

The study also reveals that the Condominiums category, incorporated into a Rental Pool Program, is estimated to cover a total of 1,311 units, with an additional 741 units in the pipeline.

Area where Short-Term Vacation Rentals are located: 61% in Noord/Tanki Leendert

Notably, 61.4% of active STVR units are situated in the Noord/Tanki Leendert region, followed by 27.6% in Oranjestad, 4.1% in Savaneta, 2.6% in Santa Cruz, 2.3% in Paradera, and 1.6% in San Nicolas.

A.T.A. to use research findings to adjust and sharpen policy, strategies for sustainable development

The A.T.A. is committed to utilizing these research findings to refine policies and strategies aimed at fostering sustainable development. Building on studies conducted in 2017 and 2018, the updated STVR inventory will be used to adjust tourism scenarios produced for Aruba, considering both the benefits and costs associated with accommodation expansion. Additionally, this information will be shared with the Tax Department to enhance tax collection and it shall also be used to influence national decision-making across various policy levels.
