“Racing Hope For All” with Disjonrick Jacobs, and Brianer Lampe, of Team Disjonrick

I see this duo of athletes up and down Malmok, one running, one in a cart-like wheel chair, who always waves at me cheerfully.

I finally asked for their credentials.

The speedy duo consists of physical education teacher, former Dutch marine, deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, Brainer Lampe and an athlete with cerebral palsy, Disjondrick Jacobs, who have been running together for the past nine years, Disjondrick in a wheel chair.

He was nine when he first expressed the desire to hit the road, and Brainer took him seriously and invited him to join. They are currently training for the Half Iron Man Around Aruba. They already completed 42.2 km at Anthem Richmond, for the Marathon in Virginia USA, and are fixing their eyes on next year’s full Iron Man Marathon in Aruba.

They finished the marathon in the USA in 4 hours and 15 minutes which by itself is amazing.

Brainer says that Disjondrick is unstoppable, he is making his dreams come true, and never allows any handicap to stop him; he is a very active young man who wants to become a motivator and a positive role model to others.

For the upcoming Half Iron Man Around Aruba the team recruited some top athletes to help the 1.9 km swim, 90 km biking and 21 km running, with Disjondrick pulled in a kayak and pushed in his wheel chair, the goal is to complete the challenge in less than 7 hours.

The duo is hoping to collect enough funds to set up the BEYOND SPORTS LIMIT FOUNDATION, supporting athlete with physical challenges, and pay for some therapy sessions for Disjondrick. For donations: Ruberch Lampe Aruba Bank 2586530190, which is the interim account, until papers are drawn at the notary.

Brainer and Disjondrick will be passing most neighborhood, from Cura Cabai to Arashi, on November 27th, during the Iron Man Aruba event.

Please support, donation boxes will be places at the Rotonda of Santa Cruz, the Rotonda of Paradera, and other locations along the route.

They are supported by local businesses such as KFC, Setar, Elite, TeleAruba, New Leaf Notary, FX sports, and the Next Level Barbershop.

For the moment, Aruba has no special educational framework for young people wrestling with cerebral palsy, no vocational schools, no rehab facilities. Disjondrick is currently involved with Enseansa pa Empleo, a local foundation designed to prepare people with limitations to enter into the work force and live a normal life in the community.

Local open water swimmer Deaxo Croes is swimming from Bonaire to Curacao, today, with the goal to raise awareness and raise money for several foundation on the ABC Islands. Team Disjondrick have followed Deaxo’s efforts, and are committed to ‘Crossing for Prevention.’ Deaxo’s crossing trip of about 53 kilometers started around 2am last night.
