Still waiting for the Ombudsman

We were promised an official, appointed to investigate individuals’ complaints against maladministration, especially that of public authorities. The promise was made repeatedly, but the office was never funded.

On February 21st, 2019, we were told that a GOA decree just instituted Bureau Integridad Aruba (BIA), since October 1st, 2018.

BIA was to be a new government department part of the general Ministry of Integrity, Governmental Care, Innovation and Energy.

Amalin Flanegin, was to be in charge of the project with a mission to safeguard and promote integrity in government, its institutions, businesses, and public employees. All those working for GOA, and its various state-owned companies, were going to yield to the Ombudsmen authority.  Citizens, the press release explained, depend on public servants for service, and they have the right to know that all who serve them, have integrity we can trust!

Bla. Bla.

BIA will work tirelessly, the press release continued to achieve that goal, and its power will be anchored in law. but the office never funded

We’re still waiting. Basically GOA doesn’t want any one, let alone an ombudsman to tell it what to do!
