Steve Jobs, would have been 57 on Friday

The iStore Team in Aruba commemorated the legacy of Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Inc. this week. Jobs was born on February 24th, 1955 and died of cancer complications on October 5th, 2011.

An American businessman and inventor he is widely recognized as the charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution.

As co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Jobs was also the co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios, and a members of the board of directors for The Walt Disney Company.

As the visionary of Apple Inc., he oversaw the development of the iMac, iTunes, iPod, iPhone, and iPad and the company’s Apple Retail Store.

In 2011 when his battle with cancer progressively deteriorated his health, he spent much of his time designing a new Apple Campus, in Cupertino City, California where the company has always been headquartered.

Jobs bought 150 acres previously owned by Hewlett-Packard computers and conceived an innovative, single building, designed to house 12,000 of the company’s employees.

Jobs vision, even as his health was declining, remained strong, and he presented his plans for a campus with underground parking, leaving 80% of the area for landscaping, with over 6,000 trees, among them fruit-bearing varieties.

The building which looks like a multi-tiered curved spaceship, boasts its own energy center, fueled by natural gas which is cleaner and cheaper.

It also includes a large auditorium, a fitness center and a variety of cafes and eateries, giving Apple Inc. a futuristic-looking, state-of-the-art, new home.

He launched the plans for the new Apple Campus in June, and at the beginning of October, lost consciousness due to complications, and died at his home, with his family by his side.

The official announcement of his passing stated that the family is deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away. Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy, it said, were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

On behalf of the iStore Team in Aruba: “To our leader Steve on your 57th birthday, your vision, dedication and determination are what motivates us every day.”
