The line founded by Giovanni Panerai (1825-1897) started in a family business, and was available at the first watchmaker’s shop in Florence on the Ponte alle Grazie. To further develop his brand, the Italian watch designer established contact with the most prestigious and longest-established Swiss watch manufacturers.
Giovanni was succeeded by his son, Leon Francesco, also an innovative designer who continued in his father’s footsteps to engineer and produce exclusive timepieces at the Panerai Manufacture.
The catalogue of Panerai boasts a family of watches which exclusively uses 100% made-in-Panerai movements. The collections always respect the Panerai standards which manifest robustness, high technical quality and a unique, distinctive aesthetic impact.
As a brand, Panerai is also known world over by its collection of watches engineered for Ferrari, and the appearance of the Ferrari watches is strongly influenced by the aesthetic lines of the cars, in a continuous cross-reference between the watch and the details of the engine and bodywork. Ferrari boats a total of two collections: Granturismo and Scuderia.
Through the ages, Panerai has also been strongly associated with the Italian Navy, the Marina Militare Italiana, various world class sailing regattas, and the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, for which it designs special limited edition watches.
