Salamander Makes a Donation

Imeldahof Receives DonationThe 7th annual Salamander Holdings NV BBQ and Yard Sale fundraising resulted in a handsome donation for Imeldahof Children’s home.

Pictured here the proud staffers of Salamander Holdings NV: Marvelynne Tromp, Nilo Arcilla, Lientje Thomas and Julie Partosemito handing over the check, the fruits of their efforts, to Dynia Muller, who is the children’s home director.

Muller was pleased to receive such a generous donation, generated by social-conscious staffers as a form of community service.

Imeldahof is a private foundation which takes in up to 52 children at a time.

The children are housed in a cluster of small homes next to the church of Noord, and while the foundation receives a small subsidy per child from the government, the foundation is really dependent on the community’s continuous generosity and support, for many of its fundamental needs.

The Imeldahof children’s home strives to offer temporary shelter and quality guidance to children who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to live in their own homes. In most cases this is temporary, until placement with family or relatives or foster parents can be arranged. Some reasons for placement of children at Imeldahof are mental or physical abuse, neglect and/or alcohol or drug abuse by the parents, or when caretakers are absent or incarcerated.

Imeldahof cares for children physically as well as emotionally by giving them safety and structure and providing a supportive, loving environment. Every child receives individual guidance, and after a period of 6 weeks of observation, his/her program is adjusted to suit the child’s specific emotional and behavioral issues. Group activities such as ballet lessons, music lessons, taekwondo, arts and crafts are offered in addition to counseling. And while the children attend regular elementary and secondary schools in the neighborhood, they live and thrive under the care of Imeldahof.

In November 2007, Salamander Holding NV announced its Repair of the World initiative, or Tikkun Olam, in the language of the Kabala.

You too can help support the home by shopping at T.H. Palm & Company. Two Percent (2%) of all sales are designated to one of six not-for-profit foundations. You may choose Imeldahof as recipient of your donation.
