Safe, memorable, and stylish stay

We spent some time at Radisson Blu recently, and already returned TWICE, for an encore lunch at their roof top Sunset Bistro Terrace. We love it there, the view, the food, the cocktails and the service deliver 100% customer delight.

Sure, the wind occasionally picks up a chair and rattles it noisily against the floor, but we didn’t allow such marginal bother to ruin the experience.

The happy gurgling crystal ball, at the entrance, winked at us in the sunshine as we drove in, to park. A water-element is always a sign of luxury, especially in dry, arid environments. I was taught that water splashing freely is the ultimate piece of upscale décor, and it welcomed us brightly. It works – unlike some sad, parched municipal waterworks on the main street and at Plaza Las Americas.

The Radisson Blu as its name indicates uses water cleverly, the free form, zero entry ground level pools are never ending, with lots of shallow kid wading spaces, and adult areas. The elongated warm whirlpool, is also a unique feature, big enough to accommodate a great number of relaxation seekers.

The rooftop bar, restaurant and infinity pool overlooking Palm Beach is so spectacular. We spent most of our time there enjoying the hospitality of an expert bartender and Zuleisi, a star server.

We are looking forward to the opening of the FireLake Grill & Cocktail Bar, soon. This is a Radisson brand promoting farm-to-table dining, a challenge in Aruba, but nothing is impossible.

Our two-bedroom suite, modern and spacious offered two full bathrooms and plenty of space to be chasing each other around, a nicely appointed kitchen with a full-size fridge, freezer and icemaker, dishwasher, microwave, and stove, which I did not use at all, because the Sunset Bistro Terrace offered it all, and they even did the dishes.

I liked the little panel at the door reporting the digital room status and the doorbell. Nice touches!!

Spectacular king size bed, and a 50-inch HDTV, with in-room entertainment options. WOW. The British football league never looked so good on a Sunday!

Back to the important stuff: Our favorites on the bar list were the BeerTails: One refreshing long drink with Balashi Chill, lime, lemon and bitter orange, called Citrus Chillada, the another, its cute sister, the strawberry, basil Chillada, topped with Balashi Chill, and citrus.

The Blu cocktails are very imaginative, besides being blue: Blu Island Ice Tea, a twist on the familiar, and the fun and pretty Blu-Tini.

Recommended: The Catch of the Day, on steamed rice, with fried plantain, pickled red onions, tomato bell-pepper chutney, coriander and lime; the classic Mahi Mahi fish tacos, or the jaw-breaking Club Sandwich, the plentiful Chicken Salad or delicious Quinoa Bowl, the mini, velvety Crab Cakes. It’s all nicely prepared and plated. The warm chocolate brownie a la mode is a must, it’s sensational!!
