Workshop Presented by AHATA, the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association

Drug Free SeminarA workshop discussing potential issues with drugs or alcohol abusing employees was recently offered by the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association to its members.

The seminar was facilitated by Dr. Jerry Nance, President, Global Teen Challenge, and covered an overview of studies made, the effects on the workplace, the effectiveness of drug testing as well as a variety of employee-assistance programs.

Dr Nance’s statistics were quoted from the Office of Drug Strategies in the USA. As he outlined the costs in lost productivity his overall recommendation was the launch of a Drug Free Workplace Program which touches every company aspect, modeled on the US Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988.

Dr Nance offered his Aruban audience a 13 different step Policy Builder for a Drug Free Workplace, and fielded questions from an interested audience made up of General Managers and Human Resources specialists in the hotel sector.

The Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association is dedicated to learning and enrichment and often offers its membership fresh and relevant workshop topics, at very low cost, as added value to membership in the organization. Currently over 120 local tourism-related companies are members of AHATA.
