Code Club Aruba
I want to help spread the word regarding a fantastic voluntary project, by Digital Natives of Aruba, Aad-Jan de Gruijl and PJ Solognier, two technology professionals with a big heart.
They had the opportunity to study abroad and spread their wings, and would like now to pay it forward to kids with fewer opportunities.
They launched Code Club Aruba to teach children about technology and how to work it. They started just before the pandemic, at the Antraco mall with about a dozen boys and girls. Then they were interrupted by the pandemic, but soon returned, determined to make a difference.
Code Club Aruba launched a pilot program with a select group of highly motivated participants, youngsters who got a chance to discover Javascript.
Javascript is the world’s most popular programming language. It is a fun, and flexible programming language and one of the core technologies of web development.
Code is the language of computers, including those in phones, cars, and even in lightbulbs. Learning to code is learning to talk to computers in their native language. Aside from how cool it is to build games, apps, and websites, participants are able to take their creative ideas and make them a reality. Coding and digital creation are invaluable skills these days, as computers become an ever more important part of life. Understanding how computers work and the best ways to interact with them, opens up lots of opportunities for people.
Code Club is a free-of-charge, volunteer-led tech club where participants can explore digital technology with the support of their peers and volunteer mentors. At Code Club Aruba, youth are empowered with life skills that will help them succeed in today’s technologically driven and diverse job market. The ability to create and design with this technology allows coders to shape the digital world rather than just live in a world built by others. Learning how to code gives participants a new creative outlet, one which they can use to express themselves while developing their resilience, problem-solving abilities, and logical thinking skills. That is why Code Club Aruba wants every participant to have the opportunity to learn how to create with technology in fun, free, and social spaces.
ATTENTION PEEPS: Code Club is currently looking for volunteer monitors who (1) would like to learn how to code and (2) guide future students with their journey in coding.
Next, we they looking for highly motivated participants between the ages of 13-21 who would like to learn how to code and join the local community of innovators.
Code Club meetups will take place regularly, which enables frequent opportunities for skill development and socialization, both of which are of great benefit to participants. If you would like to participate and/or contribute to Code Club, contact us via email at [email protected] and/or social media platforms @CodeClubAruba.
Saludos y masha danki, Aad-Jan de Gruijl and JP Solognier
