Each month, Caribbean Queen at Palm Beach Plaza Mall honors one local female artist who lives and creates here.  The Caribbean Queen program was launched when the store opened in late 2011, and has been running successfully ever since.
For the month of July 2015, local artist Magali Maduro is the boutique’s celebrated Caribbean Queen, showcasing her charming handcrafted jewelry line.
It is no wonder Magali was born with a natural ability and artistic passion; her parents Rufina and Frits Maduro were very creative in all aspects, passing their talents on to their daughter.
As a child Magali, excelled at painting and created her own clothing line for her dolls from leftover fabric.  She created graphic designs for friends from an early age, and the enthusiastic reception of her work encouraged her to pick a creative direction and become an artist.
She graduated from a Dutch fashion academy and returned to the island to run her own clothing atelier. Carnival became her biggest client and her source of inspiration as she became the island’s preferred costume designer, producing queen gowns, headpieces, body pieces, road pieces, and floats.  She also created pieces for Curacao’s Carnival groups.
She branched out to weddings, commercial designs, and uniforms, traveling to Puerto Rico to participate in an international fashion event and to pret-a-porter shows in Venezuela. Her designs sold at high-end boutiques, and a weekly fashion page in the local newspaper finally landed her a commission for the Dutch Royals. Refusing to rest on her laurels, Magali now owns an event planning and decoration services company, MAG Decoration & Art, producing ongoing premier local events.
Her fascination with jewelry, which persisted over the years, resulted in her own collection, Gali’Bijou, featuring natural cord and wire designs.  Magali is presenting this collection of original and one-of-a-kind pieces at Caribbean Queen throughout July.
Caribbean Queen earmarks a percentage of all sales for its Tikkun Olam (Repair of the World) program.  The collected funds are given quarterly to local not-for-profit organizations in an ongoing effort to do good and serve the community. All the foundations served with donations from Caribbean Queen are dedicated to the promotion of art and artisan education on the island.
