Each Month Caribbean Queen at the Palm Beach Plaza Mall honors one local female artist who lives and creates here. The Caribbean Queen program was launched when the store opened in late 2011, and has been running successfully ever since.
For the month of August 2016, local artist Dariana Romero is the boutique’s celebrated Caribbean Queen, showcasing her handcrafted jewelry.
Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Dariana made her first piece of jewelry at the age of twelve, and she hasn’t stopped ever since. Each one of her pieces is cut and made by hand, and the free-style imperfections are just part of the creative artisan process. She specializes in bridal jewelry and easily goes from casual to elegant accessories.
Besides making jewelry, Dariana leads a full life as a lawyer, graphic designer, flamenco dancer, and a black belt in Shotokan karate. “My parents believed in after-school activities and enrichment, and while I love music, flamenco dancing, photography, goldsmithing, and karate, painting and drawing are my favorites, and these contribute greatly to jewelry design.”
As an artisan, Dariana has made a name for herself on the island, and local customers love her work, especially one: “My mom,” Dariana banters, “is my #1 fan.”
Caribbean Queen earmarks a percentage of all sales for its Tikkun Olam (Repair of the World) program. The collected funds are given quarterly to local not-for-profit organizations in an ongoing effort to serve the community. All the foundations served with donations from Caribbean Queen are dedicated to the promotion of art and artisan education on the island.
Dariana’s jewelry, which celebrates feminine beauty, will be on display during the month of August at the boutique.
