Executive Chef Hector Espinoza and sous-chef Maarten Smeets of the Sunset Grille conducted a live kitchen theater at the Radisson Aruba Resort Casino & Spa in honor of the NDG, the Next Day Gourmet group, staying at the resort.
The to-live-for, 4-course menu was demonstrated, filmed and transmitted on a giant screen, at Laguna Restaurant, in full view of a captive and appreciative audience which also enjoyed eating the dish after it was prepared.
The delicious menu included rice paper Spring roll wraps filled with shrimp, duck and mushrooms with a sesame and ginger dipping sauce paired with chicken pot stickers, as the appetizer. Then the chefs demonstrated the making of their famed Vichyssoise, served creatively in a cactus barrel, and as main course the coffee crusted prime sirloin and lobster vanilla cognac flambé with Columbian fresh corn arepas and baby vegetables received buckets of praise. For the dessert the chefs made fresh fruit and berry tartlets with Belgian chocolate and crème Chantilly, and received a standing ovation of their entertaining and tasty performance.
