The KLM Aruba Championship concluded Sunday evening with an award banquet at Tierra del Sol country club. After a two year hiatus, the championship returned with international participation of golfers from Ireland, the Netherlands, USA, Canada, Venezuela, Curacao & Aruba.

Oliver Riding, Head Golf Professional, Tierra del Sol reports Quant Jr, from Aruba was the overall gross winner, while Yoni Robles from Venezuela, won the A flight, Maurice de Lisle, from Aruba, won the B flight and Michel van Leeuwen, also from Aruba, won the C Flight. Connie Peek, was the ladies champion.

Other extra prizes on the first day included longest drive A, George Wong; longest drive B, Alejandro Rodriguez; longest drive C, Lucio Maduro and longest drive ladies, Debbie Cook.

Martin O’Neil, Andy Hunt, Junior Croes and Niels Stedehouder were nearest to hole #3 in their respective flights, that day.

Other extra prizes on the second day included longest drive A, Tim Peterson; longest drive B, Junior Croes; longest drive C, Matthew Brinkman and longest drive ladies, Connie peek.

Omar de Souza, Phillip Brennan, Jan Roeloffsvalk, Niels Stedehouder and Connie Peek were nearest to hole #3 in their respective flights on the second day.

Generously sponsored by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Valero oil refinery and Boolchand’s electronics, the tournament says Riding, was a lot of fun.

Pictured here the winners and their trophies, as awarded by Danilo de Freitas, of KLM Aruba, Wim Iserief, the airline’s regional director headquartered in Curacao, and Ravee Boulchand.

Tierra del Sol had just been awarded a 4 ½ star rating in the 2008-09 edition of Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play,” which this year rated nearly 6,000 courses in North America and the Caribbean.  The 4 ½ star rating explains Riding, is a great accomplishment for Aruba and the Robert Trent Jones II design which relies on 1,800m³ of recycled water, and a crew of twelve dedicated maintenance men to daily manicure its 110 acres of grass, featuring 6,811 yards of golf.
