Time sure flies when you’re having fun, and for the Island Temptations crew it’s hard to believe that 10 years have passed since their big debut party that unveiled the first edition of what would become the island’s only award-winning magazine, most notably three Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Travel Writers Awards for outstanding promotion of the region.
Ten years encompasses 31 editions featuring the island’s talented artists, musicians, chefs, events, activities, sports, and flora and fauna. “I still remembersome people telling me 10 years ago that there is no way we could ever come up with enough fresh material again and again to keep the magazine filled with articles and features because the island was too small and didn’t have enough material for more than one edition a year…I think we proved them wrong, because just about every stone you un-turn and every corner you go around there is an interesting personality, an undiscovered talent, or a new perspective of what makes this island so beautifully unique,” shares the magazine’s editorial and creative director, Tina Causey-Bislick.
The magazine’s front covers have become iconic images, engaging readers from the get-go, with each cover presenting something a little different than the edition preceding it. The opening feature of the 10th Anniversary edition showcases all past front covers, with comments from readers, friends, and family on their favorites and most memorable covers.
The latest front cover and an accompanying pictorial inside the magazine feature famous pinups from yesteryear, recreated to every last detail with an Aruban touch. “Our first Pinup edition was in 2008, and was one of our most popular, so we decided to revisit the concept with even more vigor and attention to detail than ever—by far our most ambitious pictorial to date…and we couldn’t be prouder of the results and all the hard work our team put in to make it happen,” says the magazines public relations and special projects director, Rona Coster.
The 10th Anniversary edition also takes a walk down memory lane with many of the magazine’s past featured artists, touches base with three contemporary island musicians, explores food off the beaten track, as well as many of its regular features and columns.
The magazine is available in hotel lobbies, Ling & Sons Super Center, and many cafes and restaurants. An online e-zine version can be found at www.island-temptations.com.
