German Wines and Food, Paired at La Bodega

An excellent wine & food pairing took place just recently at La Bodega promoting Fritz Haas wines, from Germany, carried on the island by Romar Trading.

Wine Artist Clive Faustin and his Romar Trading crew entertained a crowd of food and wine lovers with an outstanding menu created by a group of three professional chefs, on the culinary team of the local Dutch Marine base in Savaneta.

The chefs prepared a traditional German menu with a Black Sausage and Red Cabbage appetizer, a Waldorf Salad, a Pumpkin Soup, and a Sauerkraut, Mashed Potato and Braised Pork specialty combination platter as the main course, chased by a delicious Sacher Torte in red berry coulis, for dessert.

The Fritz Haas wines paired with the extravagant menu included the Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Trocken, the Brauneberger Riesling Kabinett Trocken, the Brauneberger Kabinett Feinherb and the very sweet Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Spatlese with dessert.

The Fritz Haag vineyard lies in the heart of the Mosel and enjoys an extensive rich history; it was first mentioned as early as 1605, and even French emperor Napoleon was impressed with the region’s beauty and the unique quality of its grapes.

The world famous vineyard locations of Brauneberger Juffer and Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr are considered among the best of the Mosel region, and are family owned and run, specializing in Riesling grapes exclusively, which are tended by experienced wine growers, harvested by hand, and gently processed. The Fritz Haas estate offers the complete diversity of Riesling: from dry through delicately fruity to the noble sweet top growths, which first helped the Mosel Riesling gain its worldwide reputation.

When it is not hosting wine & food pairings La Bodega wine shop on Gutenbergstraat 4, Oranjestad, sells vintages from Australia, Argentina, Chile, Italy, France, Spain, New Zealand, Portugal, the United States, and South Africa, all imported here by Romar Trading.
