French wine tasting and food pairing at La Bodega

It was a packed house as La Bodega wine store once again hosted its popular monthly wine and food pairing event, serving up a delightful selection of French dishes and wines.

The evening started with an Amuse Bouche, consisting of a Mushroom filled with French Cheese and Garlic, balanced perfectly with a Laurent Perrier Champagne Brut. The first course presented Goat Cheese with Apple and Honey, accompanied by a Chateau Ropiteau Chardonnay, followed by the second course; a Chicken Salad with Oranges and Curry Mayonnaise on a bed of crispy lettuce, served with a Chateau Vielies Vignes Chablis. The Main Coarse was received with lots of praise, pairing a Pork Roll filled with Cream Cheese, Dried Ham, Paksoy, Red Wine Sauce and a garnish of Potato and Vegetables, with a Chateau Maison Nueve. The final dish offered up a sweet twist on a classic comfort food – a Lasagna of Melon and Mango with Homemade Chocolate Cake, Cream and Raspberries, matched perfectly to a Chateau Lupiac Gaudiet Sauternes.

The night was co-hosted by wine artist Clive Faustin, who is responsible for the Wine Portfolio and is the Account Team Leader at Romar Trading. Faustin reports that La Bodega wine store, located at Gutenbergstraat 4, Oranjestad, sells a variety of wines from Australia, Argentina, Chile, Italy, France, Spain, New Zealand, Portugal, the U.S.A. and South Africa, which are imported to the island by Romar Trading. Every last Friday of the month, La Bodega hosts a night of food and wine pairings, highlighting a specific region or wine-making country.

As you can see from the photos, the night of French wine and food pairings was a resounding success.
