Four Short Pieces, this is number four!

Did you ever wonder why the government paints the white road stripes and crosswalks two to three times a year?
It’s because they use cheap quality latex paints not designed for this purpose. When offered a quality alternative, it was rejected because it takes 20 minutes to dry not 10!!! Absolutely insane reasoning. Florida paints its roads once a year, Aruba’s stripes fade after 2-3 months.

Another issue, Aruba has virtually no fresh water table or aquifer to speak of. Why are we spending hundreds of thousands of florins to send men using hoes and machetes to chop weeds on rights of way and sidewalks? A truck with a spray system and commercial strength weed killer — could be environmentally friendly — is more effective and much more efficient. There are dozens of similar wasteful practices that cry out for change.

The postman used to sit on a moped. I was telling myself that a bicycle would suffice, cheaper, and better for the environment and the postman’s health. But now I see fancy new cars with Post Aruba logo going around. Great timing to invest in cars for all the postmen.

GOA is truly hopeless.
