Fantastic Marriott Pink Walk & Fashion Show, supporting the Mary Joan Breast Cancer Foundation

MARYMARRIOTT_148During the month of October, the Marriott resort conducted a series of Breast Cancer Awareness activities culminating with a Pink Walk in cooperation with neighboring resorts followed by a spectacular fashion show in the Marriott’s hotel lobby. The initiative to organize a Pink Ribbon event hailed from the Recreation department of the Marriott Aruba Vacation Club.  “We wanted to create awareness about breast cancer in the local community and among guests and raise funds to support the Mary Joan Breast Cancer Foundation,” says Shuraima Henriquez, Ocean Club & Surf Club Recreation Manager.

Our images show the tremendous community support received by the Pink Walkers which started their journey between La Cabana Beach & Racquet Club and the Amsterdam Manor on Eagle Beach. Walkers in special Pink Ribbon tee-shirts passing the high-rise hotel area were greeted with much enthusiasm by visitors and locals alike. They enjoyed having their pictures snapped by appreciative visitors, recognizing Aruba’s participation in the international promotion. The Pink Walk ended at the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, where refreshments were served.

The spectacular fashion show which followed was a first for the island. Balloon dresses designed by Marriott associate Gislaine Croes, Aruba Marriott Ocean Club and Surf Club Activities Supervisor, were trotted down the catwalk by Koma Models, on the raised portion of the resort lobby. Fashion show emcee Rona Coster introduced the models to the audience, resulting in a burst of camera flash lights. At the end of the show members of the audience posed with the models against a modest donation with all proceeds raised by tee-shirt sales, pink walk registrations and photo opportunities dedicated to the Mary Joan Breast Cancer Foundation.

In 2007, the Marriott organized a beach walk which raised funds towards the same cause, collecting approximately Awg 1,000 in just one day. This year the Marriott Ocean & Surf Club Recreation department added weekly events on Thursdays during the entire month of October, and guests were encouraged to create their own tie-dye tees and thread “pink ribbon” beads, purchase calendars, buy cakes and other merchandise which was also sold to generate additional funds.

The Mary Joan Breast Cancer Foundation Hill receive the check on November 1st.

A great thank you to the Koma Models and Martin of Beauty Team for the fantastic make up job, special thanks to Playa Linda Beach Resort, La Cabana Beach & Racquet Club, the Radisson Aruba Resort, Casino & Spa, the Aruban Resort, and many more.
