In honor of the Dutch queen’s birthday and in honor of Earth Month, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands supported a Bike Miami Day on Sunday inviting the Dutch community to join a one of a kind Orange Bike Parade in Miami.
Biking, an integral part of the Dutch culture, is good for the environment, and presents a healthy and fun activity for all ages. The Orange Bike Parade invited entire families to come to Coconut Grove, dressed in orange, the national Dutch color, and from our pictures it is obvious that the event was a total success..
The Orange Bike Parade started and finished at Peacock Park and included a raffle, and other gifts for the best orange decorated bikes under the Go Green, Go Dutch, Go Bike slogan.
Wichita Villacres, President & CEO of ECO Destination Management Services of Aruba reports that her company joined the event by sponsoring 2 children’s bikes in order to encourage energy saving hobbies, and bike-riding from a young age.
The company also pledged one adult bike for a winning participating mother.
Villacres states that the event was extremely well received prompting the Bank of America in the area to illuminate its building with orange-colored flood lights for a full week.
Organized by Lucita Moenir-Alam, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Julieta Reyes-Assistant to the Consul General of The Kingdom of The Netherlands, it also required the collaboration of Geraldine Coutinho-Meyers-Director of North America for the Aruba Tourism Authority, Maoreen Every-ECO Destination Management Services of Aruba, and President & CEO Wichita Villacres, ECO Destination Management Services of Aruba and Curacao, a proud green company.
While Lucita Moenir-Alam was the force behind the event representing the Kingdom of The Netherlands, Julieta Reyes pulled all strings behind the organization with Aruba’s Wichita Villacres and Geraldine Coutinho assisting logistics and providing sponsored prizes on behalf of Aruba, with a hotel stay at the Amsterdam Manor combined with Suriname Airways tickets. ECO DMS Aruba threw in the airport transfers with a deluxe vehicle, 2 tours, and a welcome goodie bag.
The Aruba team also starred, Zena Neme, Angelina Buckley and Jackie Van der Linden, all of ATA North America with Katia Jaramillo from the Holiday Inn in Aruba who participated with the Eco DMS team, as well as assorted children!
