HATO — The EPB School, Concha Y Toro Wineries and Romar Trading welcomed a group of dignitaries from the Aruba Tourism Authority to the Aloe Restaurant, located in the school building in Hato, when renowned Concha Y Toro Executive Chef Ruth van Waerbeek visited the school and prepared together with the 4th year culinary students, a wonderful lunch experience.
The Belgian-born Chef Ruth who lives and works in New York and Chile, sent the recipes to school ahead of time, which allowed teacher Bas Willemson to shop for ingredients and prepare for the celebrity chef’s arrival.
As the delicious four-course lunch was served, it was carefully paired with Concha Y Toro, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Terrunyo Carmenère, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The incredible, mouthwatering menu included cucumber rolls filled with shrimp and salmon ceviche served with a spicy Asian-style dip sauce, baked scallops on a bed of crispy vegetables and Parmesan butter, spicy quince/guava-glazed grilled pork tenderloin with a chimichurri salsa over fresh pea puree and for dessert flatbread with pears, blue cheese and walnuts.
As a surprise, Ronella Tjin Asjoe-Croes, CEO, Aruba Tourism Authority, asked R&B singer actor Tyrese Gibson, here for the Aruba Film Festival, to join her for lunch which pleased all students tremendously. The gracious actor posed with the students in the kitchen and was very warm and appreciative of the enthusiastic welcome he received.
