BDS Aruba and Curacao Launches Educational Program for Pharmacy Assistants

In Aruba and Curacao, there is a scarcity of pharmacy assistants graduating from local programs. A significant portion of those who do graduate often pursue further education abroad. As the first HKZ-certified pharmacy in the Dutch Caribbean, with 4 pharmacies in Aruba, and 12 pharmacies in Curacao, BDS is committed to fostering excellence within our team and delivering unparalleled healthcare services to our communities. Recognizing the critical role pharmacy assistants play in delivering quality and safe healthcare services within our pharmacies, Botica di Servicio is taking proactive steps to address this issue.

In collaboration with Leidse Onderwijsinstellingen, Botica di Servicio Aruba and Botika di Servisio Curacao are proud to announce the commencement of a vocational training program for pharmacy assistants. This initiative aims to train our colleagues, offering them opportunities for professional development within our organization. Ten colleagues will participate in this program—five in Aruba and five in Curacao.

Over the course of two years, participants will undergo comprehensive training, culminating in the attainment of an accredited MBO level 4 diploma. The curriculum covers a wide range of essential skills, including medication preparation, patient counseling, and safe dispensing practices. Integral to the program is hands-on experience gained through internships at our pharmacies, where participants will work across all Botica di Servicio locations.

Moreover, our pharmacists and pharmaceutical managers will serve as instructors alongside educators from Leidse Onderwijsinstellingen, ensuring our colleagues receive comprehensive support to complete the program. As a registered member of the Samenwerkingsorganisatie Beroepsonderwijs Bedrijfsleven (Cooperation Organization Vocational Education Business), our pharmacies welcome inquiries regarding internship opportunities in Aruba or Curacao. Interested individuals can find more information through the organization.
