Bati Bleki December 3rd

DAHER & CO WILL GLAMORIZE YOU. The new store at the Alhambra Casino & Shops is fabulous. Claudia Daher Ponson, stocked the fashions, from Brazil, one-of-a-kind outfits, shoes, clutches and jewelry, and decorated the place fabulously. I put a glitzy dress on hold, then forgot to stop by and try it out this weekend, but I will today, I promise. Let Claudia dress you, too, she has good taste, and she is super-sweet!

LUNCH DOWNTOW, AT MAMA MIMMA. My son, David Coster, shared with me his most favorite lunch spot in town. An Italian eatery owned by a mom and pop duo from, you guessed, Italy. David goes there every time he plays soccer to fuel on pure carbs, in the form of a giant Spaghetti Alla Carbonara, which would knock me out for a week, but sits well with him. On our way for lunch we skipped over the dug up sidewalks in front of Bon Bini Bazaar, then just past that intersection, before Maggy’s, we ducked into Pizza & More, where Mimma is queen of the kitchen. I had a delicious Mediterranean Salad, with a light, perfect dressing and a hearty Minestrone Soup while Son #1 lost himself in a bowl of past chased by fresh focaccia bread. David reports the pizzas are to-live-for and I can personally say that my Creamy Spinach Lasagna tasted great for dinner that night. It’s the perfect place to take the kids after school, or the in-laws in the evening, when you have no time to cook. The place is friendly and the food is reasonably priced, lunch for four is about Awg 70; we will be back!

IF ALL TANKS WERE MADE BY CARTIER, WE WOULD HAVE TIME TO LIVE IN PEACE. The classic watch enjoyed a swanky reception this week, at the Cartier Boutique at the Renaissance Mall. It was created at around Christmas of 1916, inspired by reports from the war, and the armored tanks that had made their first appearance at that time. The classic iconic watch remained faithful to its original image and over the years was worn by romantic movie legend Rudolph Valentino, and leading men, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant, Clarke Gable, Mohamed Ali & Robert Gandelman, also leading ladies Richelle Henriquez, Damilice Mansur, Muna Habash and Liesbeth Manichand who also wore some exquisite Collier Caresse d’Orchidees, by Cartier, at the party. Champagne and dainty canapés were passed around as the elegant crowd made secret Santa lists, in front of fully stocked display cases. People who enter the Cartier boutique don’t only admire the jewelry, accessories, and extraordinary watches, they are also faithful to the brand, which is much stronger than any trend or fashion craze. Which is precisely what makes it timeless!

KING COFFEE, HAS MORE THAN GOOD COFFEE. King Coffee in Noord just put the neighborhood on the map, for serving great soups and sandwiches. The place is adorable. It was conceived by the people of Natural Stones in Turibana, who gave it lovely floors and great kitchen counters. Joyce is in charge of the front, taking orders and making coffee. She is a certificated barista and makes a perfect macchiato! For lunch this week we took out a bucket of thick and filling pumpkin soup, and yummy Tuna and Chicken sandwiches on crusty bread; lunch for two is about Awg 40. Closed from 2 to 4pm, otherwise it’s perfect!

BIGGEST WASTE OF ALL TIMES. You will all agree with me that the biggest waste of all times is this ridiculous system we have with license plates. Can someone save us from our own wastefulness, and introduce some kind of stickers to be bought at the Ontvanger and applied onto the existing license plates as proof of payment for the year. Cla. I don’t want to go through this craziness each year, discarding perfectly good plates in honor of a new set with a different color. I challenge you to make changes, and put the money you saved to work for us, in some more useful way!

THE MEDITERRANEAN MEETS THE CARIBBEAN AT IKE’S BISTRO. The new restaurant will be hosting a weekend of festivities in honor of its official opening, from December 8th to the 11th. Restaurant chef Ever de Pena will team up with celebrity French Chef Alberto Ughetto, from Provence, France, preparing signature dishes and their own specialties, paired with a nice selection of Mediterranean wines, for 4 consecutive nights. The Surprise Tasting Menu will serve to introduce the eatery to local food-lovers. Don’t miss. The chefs promise to delight your taste buds like never before!! Among other festivities planned for Monday, is a Cooking Exhibition, at Ike’s Bistro, teaching the makings of a classic Ceviche with Avocado, and a Couscous Salad. On Tuesday, the island’s movers and shakers will be invited for a cocktail hour, on the beach, the Grand Opening reception. Ike should be happy from his seat at his restaurant in the sky!

TEATREE OIL IS A MAGIC POTION. They say that when the student is ready the teacher appears. I heard about Tea Tree Oil for many years from my sister, she swore it heals pimples and cuts and scratches instantly. I never paid any attention to her unsolicited advice, never wanted to try, until I bought my first bottle. It’s expensive, but it’s gold. The tea tree grows in Australia, and the indigenous people there have been using it since the beginning of time. Recently it was confirmed that Tea Tree Oil, any brand is good, is in possession of antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic qualities, which means that a tiny dab cleans wounds and kills whatever germ it finds. You may gargle with it too – don’t swallow, apply it to scratches on your dogs – they will sneeze because of the camphor smell, but the injury will heal – just don’t let them lick it off!!
