Aruba Art Fair, 5th edition, heading to San Nicholas, Nov. 2nd, 3rd, 4th

Organizers promise over 80 artists in participation.

The Art Fair is coming back, bigger and better. The first night is dedicated to San Nicolas, the second to the Dance Academies and the third to a big Cultural Parade.

Tickets: Available for pre-sale at all the CITGO gas station. A ticket to the fashion show is included with the weekend pass.

The Art Fair encompasses various elements, murals by international and local artist, an art exhibition with installations, paintings and sculptures, all over the main street in San Nicolas, solo shows by local artists, dance, music and fine dining with a number of pop-up restaurants by Divi.

San Nicolas flaunts over 30 murals, as a result of previous art fairs, and it has become a tourist destination by virtue of it being the Caribbean’s largest outdoor art museum. The project is supported by the Aruba Tourism Authority, Balashi Beer brewery, Dutch cultural foundations, and Elite Productions, also funding from other secondary sources, drummed up by the Art Fair organization each year. Organizers make up a relatively modest core of die-hards, big on talent and volunteerism.

The plastic art show curated by Renwick Heronimo will focus on five decades of artistic endeavors on the island with contemporary artists sharing the exhibition space with big names from the past, some of them no longer here, such as Julie Oduber. Heronimo is including pieces hanging in private collections around the island. Those will be going on-loan for the show.

Heronimo already picked the themes for the next two years, which means that his involvement with the Art Fair will be ongoing.

Fashion will be nicely represented this year, with Fashion Meets Climate, a show focusing on climate change and the need to conserve resources.

Designer Javan Croes, is working on the November 2nd spectacle, upcycling clothes, reclaiming and repurposing pieces donated by the D Shop which he is rearranging, making pants into dresses and tops into shorts, in the spirit of Reuse, Recycle and Repurpose.

Javan is a business and management graduate, with a passion for fashion. He recently showed his 2022-23 collection, at the Surfside Marina. As a local designer, he says he is committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, addressing climate change awareness, and the need to reduce waste in our society, and in fashion in particular. Fashion designer and model Gigi Gomez, has joined the team as a runway coach.

Candy Rasmijn, a jewelry designer and fashionista, is in charge of the Art Fair operations, along with founder Tito Bolivar and PR specialist Diana Croes.
