Art Rule Aruba Teachers hold a work-meeting over brunch at Ventanas del Mar

As the target day is Monday, Art Rules Aruba teachers convened at Ventanas del Mar Restaurant for a brunch meeting and pre program goal setting.

Organized by the Pancake Gallery Foundation the third year in a row, Art Rules Aruba is kicking off on July 9th, offering an educational Arts program, for local kids on school vacation.

The program is held at Atelier 89, in Oranjestad, and is presented by RBC Royal Bank, to 201 young adults between the ages of 12 and 23.

All students expressed a strong desire to cultivate their artistic talents and skills, and Art Rules Aruba is providing them with the following disciplines this year: Photography, Fashion, Film, Dance, DJ, Street Art, Music & Performance and Theater, taught by local and international professionals who will be sharing their knowledge and experience with the youth of Aruba.

Ventanas del Mar restaurant hosted the crew on Sunday, with teachers hailing from the UK, the USA, Canada, the Netherlands and Aruba.

Ira & Ayra Kip, of the Pancake Gallery Foundation report the program will be focusing on discipline as a core value on the road to success. Physical strength will also receive attention as children today are shuttled to classes by their parents, resulting in reduced physical activity and condition.

Music & Performance, a discipline introduced this year for the first time, became much in demand, the Kip sisters explain, accepting kids who sing and those who play instruments. The DJ class enjoyed increased enrollment, and will be lead by a female DJ teacher. While dance and theater filled up at a good pace, many more flocked to Fashion and Photography classes. This year’s photography course will be documenting the evolution of Aruba’s youth as artists, resulting in excellent images at the end of the two weeks. Film will be taught by a team of two, as well as Street Art. The students will be contributing the refresh of the housing project in Madiki presenting the neighborhood with a mural, executed under the watchful eye of not just one but two art teachers.

Art Rules Aruba would not have been possible without the support of local businesses that have all chipped in to invest in the program, which is more than just a summer workshop.

Art Rules Aruba creates a strong support network for Aruba’s teens, providing them with a platform to express themselves in an artistic way and creatively tackle social issues among members of the young generation, motivating them to work hard and be the best that they can be.
