A Woman of Courage
Saturday night at a Paradera location designer Gigliola Gomez presented 19 couture pieces to a limited number of invitees, seated around a pool, in a lovely garden setting.
The designer came out of imposed hibernation with a show starring the island’s best models, paying homage to almost-forgotten, high-fashion.
Gigliola, nicknamed Gigi, has been designing since the age of 12, her own dresses and those of friends. She also enjoyed a solid career as an international runway model, before transitioning to personal styling, and in recent years creating her own fashion brand and seasonal collections.
The roots of all Gigliola Design’s collections are in fabric, and this time her inspiration came from a pink and black hound-tooth Italian yarn that reminded her of our interwoven, connected relationships with the world.
The ESCAQUE collection 2021 fashion show was streamed live on FB and it signals to the designer’s clients and friends that the age of flip flops and gym-clothes is over — we should all wake up to fashion in honor of the upcoming holiday celebrations.
The designer has in the past dressed Dutch royalties and participated numerous European and America Fashion Weeks. Otherwise she is a wife and a mother of two, and her line of bathing suits is sold in select boutiques on the island.
