A precursor to signing the Dutch-Aid Agreement, or what’s good for the goose is good for the gander

The MinPres of Curacao is the forerunner.

What’s right for him must be right for us!

On Oct 11th he published a declaration worth reading, heralding what he called a long term collaboration and financial agreement with the Dutch.

As you recall that was the 10th year anniversary of Curacao’s status aparte, and he picked that historic date to announce to the world that his parliament approved signing.

He said real change is coming, called for both sides to assume their responsibilities and repeated a number of ways his hopes for investment in the social, medical, educational and economic areas.

He said it would be a six-year agreement that expires automatically, no need to ask, he maintained that execution remained in Curacao’s hands, and that ‘the entity of reform and development’ will help modernize everything from tax systems to public sector finances, “this is the time for us to achieve real autonomy,” he pronounced.

Pretty cool.

I wish Aruba’s MinPres comes out with a statement like that instead of leaving us hanging, in the dark, about her intentions, though she did confuse us for a moment, in past weeks, declaring she was prepared to sign last month, then went on vacation, in Orlando, a truly relaxing spot.

The negotiations are ongoing. What does that mean?

Small minute changes in wording, nothing in principle, the Dutch made the offer and it stands.

When our financial supervision organ gets back with a number, expressing our financial aid until the end of the year, will Aruba finally be ready to sign?!

Curacao declared its readiness.

It should now be EASIER for Aruba to follow.
