While on the island for a charity golf tournament Eric Wente leads EPI students’ Wine Tasting & Food Pairing Experience

On his 2019 visit to the island, wine legend Eric Wente, of Wente Vineyards, California, spent some time with third-year hospitality students at EPI.

The Winegrower whose family has been in the wine growing and making business for over 135 uninterrupted years loves hosting the local golf tournament designed to raise funds for an island charity, while also promoting his already world-famous brand.

One of Wente’s annual activities here is an educational opportunity, a wine tasting class which takes place at the EPI school.

Representing America’s first family of Chardonnay, Eric who has directed the company’s diverse operations gladly share his knowledge and vast experience with the younger generation.

The tasting he conducted on Thursday, April 11th, 2019, included five distinctive wines from his collection.  While talking about the expertise and science of wine making Eric taught his young audience about wine appreciation and description, and also discussed his philosophy of food pairing, as well as restaurant etiquette, sales and the selection of proper glassware.

The wines sampled by the students were: Louis Mel Sauvignon Blanc, and Morning Fog Chardonnay, both from the Livermore Valley; Riverbank Riesling, Arroyo Seco, Monterey; and Sandstone Merlot and Southern Hills Cabernet, both from the Livermore Valley, California.
